A few weeks ago, my mom, aunts, cousins and I began the very emotional process of going through my grandmother's belongings. My grandma was a very stylish lady and her dresser drawers were filled with hankies, scarves, clutches and costume jewelry. My cousin Carrie and I used to pour through these drawers as children and spent hours playing dress-up.
Through the sadness of it all, it was really beautiful to relive so many memories we had of her through her things: a dress she wore to a wedding or one of her favorite scarves prompted lots of reminiscing and even some laughter.
Her pink lined sewing basket still smells just like her, sweet and powdery.
I have a couple of pieces of my grandmother's jewelry, and wear one of them now and then. Every time I wear it, I imagine I can smell the carnation sachet she loved to wear. It's so funny how things can bring a person back with such overwhelming sensory memories, isn't it.

That's awesome that you're able to have fond memories together while going through her things which is a tough thing to do. I was able to have the leather purse that my great great grandfather made for my great grandmother. it has her initials carved into it. it's one of my favorite things to wear.

Lovely pictures and words.
I'm very close with my grandmother and I think I understand how you feel. Even her scent can be so sweet and reassuring, right?
All the best!
