While Red has always felt like a power color for me, Blue is my most sentimental color because it reminds me of a lot of the women in my family. My maternal grandmother always served food on Blue Onion and Blue Willow dishes, a pattern that my mom grew up to love. And then I fell in love with it too. On the other side of the coin, my paternal grandmother's china was more staid: simple white with a blue band. But, she also had a set of Catherin Holm bowls and I was mesmorized by them even as a kid. Many years later, blue and white are still my go-to kitchen colors but I like to mix the decorative swirls of Grandma Eileen's dishes with the Scandinavian simplicaty of Grandmother Jane's.
